Jacoma - Malawi

This investment, completed in 2019, is managed under the Ulimi Fund - Old Mutual Malawi, alongside CDC and AgDevco as institutional shareholders.

 

Underpinned by favorable global demand for macadamia, this investment contributes to the diversification of Malawi’s export-income base. Jacoma forms part of our vision to build a fully integrated player in the global macadamia value chain from nursery to market.

The farm has currently 520 ha fully planted, 360 ha under development, and a further 175 ha expansion potential. Jacoma’s current operation includes a nursery and dehusking facility.

 

In addition to core operations, the farm has developed an inclusive business model with an out-grower scheme providing market linkage, technical support, and fair offtake prices to nearly 6,000 chili, paprika, and macadamia smallholder farmers.

 

The program includes irrigation and training, and women are well represented and positioned within it.
